When No Casinos, an Orlando-based nonprofit opposed to gambling expansion in Florida, pushed a constitutional amendment to prevent lawmakers from allowing new casinos without the consent of voters, the Seminole Tribe chipped in almost $24 million to help the effort. Now, as the Florida Legislature is poised to approve a sweeping 30-year gambling compact with the Tribe, the two sides are at odds over whether the proposal violates that amendment, which was approved by nearly 72% of voters in 2018.
